Advisors must balance their responsibilities to individual members, the organization, and the University of Nebraska–Lincoln.
Responsibility to Individual Members
Advisors should help students balance academics and extracurriculars, preventing overcommitment. Encourage participation from all members to foster investment, accountability, and leadership development.
Responsibility to the Student Organization
Advisors assist in setting realistic goals, staying informed on events, ensuring compliance with University policies, and maintaining organizational continuity. They help new officers build on past successes and plan for the future.
Responsibility to the University
Advisors must remind students of institutional policies to prevent violations and collaborate with the University and SLICE office if issues arise. They should familiarize themselves with:
- Student Code of Conduct: UNL Student Conduct
- ASUN Bylaws: ASUN Constitution & Bylaws
Advisors should retain copies of their RSO’s ASUN-approved constitution and any off-campus affiliate documents to ensure compliance with University policies.
Financial Responsibilities
Advisors may need to approve financial transactions to ensure compliance with Student Organization Financial Services (SOFS) policies. Their signature verifies expenditures are appropriate and reasonable.
