When you think of a leader, what do you think of? A person you admire? Qualities? Skills? Titles? Positions? All of these do come to mind.

We all know individuals who have a position/title, who are not leaders, and individuals who do not have a leadership position/title who are leaders.

To help in understanding leaders and leadership here are some concepts to consider:

  • Leadership is about relationships
  • Leaders are inclusive
  • Leaders may or may not have a position/title
  • We are all leaders, followers, and team players

Being a leader is sharing your gifts with others. This starts with understanding yourself, and then making the connection between your special abilities and passions to areas of your life.

Ask yourself these questions:

  • What do my friends say I am good at?
  • What are three words to describe me?
  • What brings me joy?
  • In the past week when have I been a leader, a follower, and a team player

Use your responses to think of how these relate to or are connected to the important involvements in your life.
