We Give Blood Grants: Recognized Student Organization Awards

Providing funds to Recognized Student Organizations for projects that directly support student or community health and well-being in the areas of emotional, physical, or social well-being. A total of $150,000 will be awarded.

These funds are a portion of the $1 million award provided to UNL as the inaugural recipient of the We Give Blood Drive competition sponsored by Abbott.

Project Ideas

Projects must directly support student or community health and well-being in the areas of emotional, physical, or social well-being. Groups may apply for a minimum of $500 and a maximum of $7,500.


A few broad ideas that would be considered for funding (but not limited to): 

  • No cost bike repair project at campus recreation

  • Bike giveaways to students

  • Running challenge with gate analysis and running shoe resources

  • Student organic farm

  • Student campus speaker series focused on emotional wellbeing

  • Pop-up relaxation stations

  • Group travel to attend wellbeing related event, conference, etc.

  • Craft & creative expression series

Criteria + Application

  1. Must be a Recognized Student Organization (RSO) that is in compliance with the Student Leadership, Involvement, and Community Engagement office.

  2. Impact to emotional, physical, or social wellbeing

  3. Audience must be UNL students or Nebraska community.

Applications are evaluated on:

  • Event logistics and plan

  • Number of impacted participants (quantity of individuals)

  • Impact to wellbeing (emotional, physical, or social)

  • Budget

Timeline / Funding Cycle

  • Funding Cycle 1
    • September 1, 2025 – Application for preferred review
    • September 15, 2025 – Notification of awards
  • Funding Cycle 2 (if funds still available)
    • October 6, 2025 – Application for final review
    • October 22, 2025 – Notification of awards
  • All expenses must be reported within 30 days of the event/project and prior to June 1, 2026.

Selection

Review and selection of We Give Blood Grants is made by a committee comprised of an ASUN Student Government representative and Student Life staff members who are subject matter experts and/or who work closely with an RSO.

Successful applicants will prepare or gather these items for their submission:

  • develop a short abstract describing intended use of funds
  • create a detailed budget
  • create a proposed event logistics and timeline plan
  • discuss project with the RSO advisor
