Faculty Grants

Student Involvement awards five grants up to $1000 for faculty to develop a new course or revise an existing course to include an academic service-learning component in the curriculum. Grant funds must be used for faculty or student travel, including conference fees, food and lodging; supplies and materials; and student worker salaries. The deadline for 2005 Faculty Grant Proposals is April 15, 2005.

Alternative Break Grants

Student Involvement awards four grants up to $500 each to aid faculty members, graduate assistants, and Recognized Student Organizations in planning an Alternative Break trip. Alternative Break service trips must enhance student learning and increase excitement amongst students about service-learning at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Grant funds must be used for travel, supplies, materials, food, or lodging for alternative breaks. The deadline for 2005 Grant Proposals is April 15, 2005.

Service-Learning Faculty Manual

Student Involvement’s Service-Learning & Volunteer Services Team developed this manual for faculty at UNL to aid in implementing Academic service-learning into their courses. The manual has information on service-learning in general and effective practices for service-learning reflection, evaluation, and diversity. It also has resources that are available through UNL and national groups. Student Involvement Resource Library

Our library has many service-learning texts and journals, most of which are available for check-out. We have sorted through the available resources and chosen those that are most comprehensive and helpful. All of these recommendations are available in the Student Involvement Resource Library.

Service-Learning by Discipline Binders

Student Involvement’s Service-Learning & Volunteer Services Team has compiled helpful service-learning information by academic discipline, including journal articles and sample syllabi used by faculty on other campuses, and recommendations from faculty in your field who have utilized service-learning on their campus.

Service-Learning Agency Partners

Many agencies contact us indicating an interest in forming an educational partnership with a university course. We screen these requests and compile information about agencies that would make terrific service-learning partners. Additionally, Student Involvement has brochures and reports from hundreds of Lincoln community organizations and service agencies to help you choose the best service opportunity for your course.
