Alternative Spring Break Trips
Kansas City, KS (Spring Break 2005)
Students will spend time working with Jewish Vocational Services: one of the largest agencies in the area that helps to support immigrant and refugee populations. Participants of this trip will help sort and place furniture into houses and apartments to help new immigrants and refugees settle into their lives in the United States. As cultural events, these students will visit the American Jazz Museum and Negro Leagues Baseball Museum. A visit to the University of Missouri-Kansas City service-learning department to talk about their experiences is scheduled.
Events:
- Lunch with UMKC service learning students @ UMKC
- Jewish Vocational Services: preparing apartments, doing clean-up, sorting warehouse donations, and visiting with refugees
- Cultural activity: Kansas City Jazz Museum, Negro Leagues Baseball Museum
