Selecting Recognized Student Organization Advisors
Every Recognized Student Organization (RSO) must have a faculty or managerial/professional staff advisor. Student Involvement may be able to assist a student group in obtaining an advisor if necessary. The following rules apply to advisor selection:
- Advisors shall be selected from among active members of the University faculty, University faculty administrators or administrative and managerial/professional staff. Office service/technical and graduate student staff are not eligible to serve as primary advisor but may serve as secondary advisors.
- A faculty/staff member should not be asked to serve as the only advisor for more than two RSOs.
- The term of service for advisors should be stated in the RSO's constitution. These terms usually average one to three years. Provisions for serving consecutive terms may also be made.
- RSOs are encouraged to select two faculty/staff advisors to maximize students' opportunity to access an advisor.
