Student Involvement

Information Strategies: Web Development and Research

The Best Part

Student Involvement Information Strategies (SIIS) Web Development and Research encourages students to utilize new and innovated solutions to get the job done. Students research and discuss new ideas and implement the best ones. If a student thinks that mod_lisp might be the way to go, s/he can research it. An open and friendly atmosphere, with free candy, provides a creative programming and development enviornment.

Open Source Friendly

At SIIS, open source technologies are utilized on a daily basis and open source solutions are encouraged. If a student wants to open source a piece of code, they can. If a student wants to use a piece of someone elses open source code, it is used.

Students Master Their Code Fu

SIIS does not care what a student develops in as long as it does not interfere with other students and solves the problem. Whether it is Emacs, Vim, or Dreamweaver, your editor of chioce is what you use. SIIS encourages students to develop their Code Fu by trying out different styles and finding what works best for them and their real-world development.

Tools used

At SIIS the toolbox is huge. Web Development uses, but is not limited to, Linux, OS X, Windows, Virtual Box, PHP, Python, Javascript, JQuery, MySQL, Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Illustrator, Git and whatever else a student brings in the future.
